2018 is the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up, as well as Dongguan’s. To vividly demonstrate the tremendous impact during the past 40 years, “The Role of Dongguan” Art Exhibition is displaying various kinds of art pieces including historical photographs, replicated scenes, and art installations. More than 2,000 art pieces with historical imprint are on display in Jianyu Zhou until January 24.
Situated close to the Dongguan landmark known as Keyuan Garden, Jianyu Zhou is one of the most distinctive industrial sites of Dongguan—it used to have plenty of foreign trade enterprises during the 1970s to 1980s. However, the market competition, enterprise restructuring and other elements caused its downfall during the 1990s. Luckily, it has been rekindled due to the government’s support since 2004.
The exhibition is divided into four parts based on the timeline—from 1978 to 2018, every ten years is projected from exhibits, showing how Dongguan has developed.
