Basketball is not only for men and their victory—in March, Guangdong Vermilion Birds Team obtained its first championship of Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) history. Hence, Dongguan became the first prefecture-level city that gulps down both CBA and WCBA championship in history, with its well-deserved name, “City of Basketball.”
To celebrate double championships, an LED show was prepared across Nancheng landmark buildings, which not only illuminated the night sky but also onlookers’ emotions.
Besides the professional league, Dongguan also has some great scores in other games: Since 2015, Dongguan gained four championships in Guangdong Basketball Association (GDBA); the Chinese three-man basketball team formed by Macong locals took the title for 2018 Asian Games; the Dongguan team won the championship in Guangdong Provincial Sports Games, etc.
