PRC’s First National Chess Champion

In Fenggang, a Chinese chess square was built  and dedicated to Chinese chess master Yang Guanlin, who was born in Tangli Village, Fenggang in 1925. Built in 2008, the 4,500  square meter area  includes more than 50 giant stone chessboards, many of which contain complex chess puzzles as solved by Yang over the years. Yang won PRC’s first Chinese chess championship in 1956 and another three from 1956 to 1983. In 1982, he was granted the title of Chinese Chess Grand Master. Since 2004, Fenggang has been organizing the national Yang Guanlin Cup, a Chinese chess competition that takes place every other year.
